Overview

The syllabus for F6, taxation, introduces candidates to the subject of taxation and provides the core knowledge of the underlying principles and major technical areas of taxation as they affect the activities of individuals and businesses.

What will I Learn?

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Analyze the operation and scope of the tax system and the obligations of tax payer and/or their agents and the implications of noncompliance;
  • Describe and compute the income tax liabilities of individuals and the effect of national insurance contributions (NIC) on employees, employers and the self-employed;
  • Explain and calculate the chargeable gains arising on individuals;
  • Explain and compute the inheritance tax liabilities of individuals;
  • Discuss and compute the corporation tax liabilities of individual companies and groups of companies;
  • Explain and calculate the effects of value added tax on incorporated and unincorporated businesses.

The following topics will be addressed:
  • The UK tax system and its administration
  • Income tax and NIC liabilities
  • Chargeable gains for individuals
  • Inheritance tax
  • Corporation tax liabilities
  • Value added tax
The entry requirements for this course are as follows:
  • 2 passes at GCE A Level (grades A-E or 9-4) OR CAPE units at grade 1 – 4. Please note that 1 subject could contain more than one unit i.e. Unit 1 and/or Unit 2. Each component unit can be accepted as achieving 1 unit.
  • 3 subjects in Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) (General Proficiency Grades 1-3 from 1998; Grades 1 & 2 prior to 1998) OR 3 passes at GCE O Level (grade C or above). N.B. Passes must be held in English and Mathematics at the appropriate grades above at either O Level or CXC level.

This course will employ a blended learning format utilizing Face to Face ONLINE teaching, alongside the Online Enhanced Classroom (ECR) tool. There will also be mock exams to help students prepare for the final ACCA examination.
