
Carla Ali spent eleven years as an officer of the Legislative Drafting Department of the Office of the Attorney General, Trinidad and Tobago, where she drafted and assisted with the drafting of legislation related to the family, children, child protection, juvenile justice, domestic violence, sexual offences, and the establishment of courts. She was the primary drafter of Trinidad and Tobago’s updated National Sex Offender Register and was also instrumental in assisting with the drafting of legislation establishing the Family Court and the Children Court, prohibiting child marriage, and reforming the juvenile justice system, in Trinidad and Tobago. As a Legislative Drafting Consultant, Carla has collaborated with organizations such as the Pan-American Health Organization, the Inter-American Development Bank, Public Administration International in the United Kingdom, the Donation and Transplantation Institute in Spain, the Central Bank of Belize, and the Barbados Law Reform Commission, to provide draft legislation in areas such as organ transplant, disaster management, digital governance and transformation, national payment systems, and the regulation of homes for older persons.
