
The Legislative Drafting Programme is expressly designed to train lawyers and other suitably qualified persons in the skill of drafting legislation to cover every conceivable area of human affairs subject to regulation. In addition to instruction in the technical skill of drafting ‘traditional’ legislation, the Programme aims to provide the candidates with a basic understanding of Treaty Drafting, Constitution Writing, and the preparation of the Appellate Brief.

The Legislative Drafting Programme consists of 5 courses.
Candidates registered for the UWI LLM in Legislative Drafting must complete the following:
For their remaining credits, candidates may complete either:
(a) two additional UWI LLM courses;
(b) a single course, and produce a Research Paper, or
(c) a single course and engage in a Supervised Legislative Drafting Internship.
To be eligible for admission, applicants:
– must hold a LL.B. degree, or any other professional legal qualification with at least Second Class Honours
– must be admitted to practise in any part of the Commonwealth;
– should also be certified as being in practice for a minimum of five years.

The LL.M. and Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting is a University Grants Committee (UGC) Funded program. Please review the UGC‐Programmes Financial Handbook on our website which gives the rates applicable for relevant academic year.
Students whose governments do not pay the economic cost would be responsible for the full payment of all fees.
