The Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop (CCLW), first held in 1999, is not only the flagship law event for the Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, but also the premier commercial law conference for Caribbean lawyers.

The Faculty of Law of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, is pleased to announce that the 23rd Annual Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Panama in Panama City, Panama from July 19-21, 2026.

Theme: Law in the Age of Disruption: Caribbean Commercial Practice Reimagined

The Caribbean faces a rapidly evolving legal and commercial landscape shaped by digital transformation, climate change, global economic shifts, and the enduring legacies of colonial legal frameworks. This workshop invites legal scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and technology enthusiasts to explore how Caribbean commercial law can respond to these disruptions, not merely through adaptation, but through bold reimagination. This workshop seeks to interrogate the colonial foundations of Caribbean legal systems and explore decolonial alternatives to the current commercial landscape in the region; foster dialogue on resilience, innovation, and inclusive legal reform; examine how emerging technologies (AI, blockchain, fintech) are reshaping commercial law and how Caribbean practice can adopt such technologies ensuring the region does not fall behind in this rapidly evolving field; and to promote regional collaboration in shaping future-ready commercial legal frameworks.

Call for Papers & Save the Date

Persons are warmly invited to submit paper proposals for the Workshop. All proposals must contain the full name and contact details of the presenter, the proposed paper title, and a short abstract of the paper topic (250 words maximum). Papers should be related to the Workshop Theme and must be submitted by March 13, 2026, to lorna.payne@uwi.edu.
