Lecturer in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum:

  • An MBBS or MD or any equivalent, from a recognised university

         AND

  • At least one (1) of the following qualifications or any other equivalent qualification:
  • i.   DM Plastic Surgery

         OR

  • ii.  FRCS or equivalent

         OR

  • iii  American/Canadian Board Certification in Plastic Surgery

         OR

  • iv. CCT

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Specialist qualification in Plastic Surgery should be recognised by The University of the West Indies and registrable by the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in the field of Surgery, at a recognised tertiary institution or university
  • At least one (1) year clinical experience post receipt of specialist qualification
  • Experience in clinical supervision of junior colleagues
  • A good record of relevant research and publications in reputable peer reviewed journals
  • Very high level of clinical competence that provides evidence of audited surgical outcomes
  • Evidence of leadership skills such as mentoring juniors to achieve success, conflict resolution, time management and chairing of meetings/group sessions
  • Evidence of having used technology relevant to teaching including audio-visual aids and teaching in the virtual environment
  • Evidence of assessment knowledge (summative and formative assessment of learners)
  • Ability to analyse medical literature and apply to clinical and professional practice

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a health-related specialty
  • Fellowship specialist training in a subspecialty such as Breast Surgery, Free Tissue Transfer, Surgical Oncology-Head and Neck, Burns, Trauma and Critical Care- limb salvage with flaps, Skin Cancer, Paediatric anomalies such as cleft lip/palate
  • Prior success in formulating research questions, designing research methodology, collecting and analysing data
  • Prior success in the use of computer software application and statistical packages

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certification in Medical Education
  • Certification in university teaching and learning
  • Experience in the supervision of student research
  • Evidence of prior success in attracting external research and development funding
  • Knowledge of healthcare financing, resource allocation and cost control
  • Evidence of programme or project design, development and implementation

 

Candidates should be registered or be able to be registered with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
