The Postgraduate Fee Waiver Scholarship is tenable only at the Cave Hill Campus at the University of the West Indies to support eligible postgraduate students pursuing MPhil or PhD programmes, on a full-time or part-time basis. The award covers approved tuition and economic fees and is granted on a competitive basis, subject to academic merit and institutional priorities.
All Fee Waiver Scholarships are awarded for one academic year in the first instance. Renewal is contingent on good to excellent academic progress, timely completion of programme milestones, and fulfilment of approved studentship requirements, in accordance with University regulations. Maximum tenure reflects minimum programme duration: up to 2 years (MPhil) and 3 years (PhD) for full-time students, and up to 4 years (MPhil) and 5 years (PhD) for part-time students, inclusive of renewals.
As part of the scholarship, recipients are required to complete structured studentship/service hours each semester in approved roles aligned with their academic expertise, such as teaching assistance, research support, or other sanctioned scholarly contributions. All roles and hours must be approved in advance by the Supervisor, Head of Department and Dean, and are monitored and reported each semester through the School for Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) using the official monitoring form.
The Postgraduate Fee Waiver Scholarship is designed to provide meaningful financial support while promoting academic excellence, accountability, and contribution to the Cave Hill Campus’s teaching and research mission.
