About Us
The Office of Student Corporate & Alumni Relations (OSCAR) at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Barbados is here to help you reconnect and stay connected to UWI. The mission of the Office of Alumni Relations is to develop, maintain and sustain lifelong, mutually beneficial relationships between the University of the West Indies and its alumni.
The Graduate Placement Programme initiated in 2010; facilitates work placements with our partnering organisations. This is a flexible method of preparing graduates for the world of work, making them more work-ready and employable for employers recruiting staff.
Having a University degree is not enough to ensure that a young UWI graduate is well placed to take advantage of an opportunity to put to use his/her education to add value to an organisation. Several UWI graduates experience a period of frustration during the post-graduation job search.
Additionally, employers have highlighted the fact that the contemporary graduate may not possess fundamental ‘world of work skills’ and as a result, may frustrate the delicate relation between employer and the new graduate employee.
UWI Office of Student, Corporate & Alumni Relations (OSCAR), in collaboration with CIBC First Caribbean International Bank, has attained the vision to create an initiative which would be beneficial to both the graduate employer and employee.
We aim to improve graduate employability, develop strong relationships with local, regional and national recruiters, and raise career aspirations of students and alumni of The University of the West Indies.
The programme has already proved to be a positive and beneficial experience for all those involved. Several students who have participated in placements are now in permanent employment with some of our partners.
