About the Programme

The Post-Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development Studies is a taught programme offered by the Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit. The aim of the programme is to develop a cadre of well-trained gender specialist who are able to understand and respond to the complexity of gender relations and systems within the Caribbean region and beyond. 

What Will I Study?

The Post-Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development Studies is designed to: 
  1. ​Teach students the tools of gender analysis and how to apply them to development processes and operations within public, private and non-profit sectors.
  2. Expose a range of modern techniques and an enhanced capacity to address developmental issues in the Caribbean and globalized world. 
  3. To increase the pool of experts that train or teach women's / gender and development studies at different levels. 
  4. To strengthen gender-based training and research in diverse subject areas.

Programme Details

Compulsory Courses for the Post-Graduate Diploma are: 

  1. Contemporary Feministy Theorizing.
  2. Feminist Epistemology and Methodology. 
  3. Issues in Caribbean Feminism and Gender Relations 
  4. Gender Analysis for Development, Policy and Planing 
  5. Sexualities, Bodies and Power in Society.

Entry Requirements: 

The minimum requirement for PG Diploma in Gender & Development Studies is a Lower Second Class (Honours) undergraduate degree or equivalent. Non-degreed candidates or candidates with Pass degrees who have other relevant qualfications and sustainable government or NGO experience will be considered for entry on a case by case basis.
