This prestigious award recognizes innovative thinking that pushes boundaries and offers practical solutions through science and technology.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/Students-Central-Hub\/STEM-innovation-image1.jpg\" style=\"width: 600px; height: 397px;\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"501\" data-start=\"480\"><strong data-end=\"501\" data-start=\"480\">Award Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul data-end=\"1198\" data-start=\"502\">\n<li data-end=\"599\" data-start=\"502\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"599\" data-start=\"504\">Promote the Faculty\u2019s <strong data-end=\"545\" data-start=\"526\">Science for ALL<\/strong> philosophy by making science accessible and relevant.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"681\" data-start=\"600\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"681\" data-start=\"602\">Encourage the application of the <strong data-end=\"655\" data-start=\"635\">applied sciences<\/strong> to real-world challenges.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"761\" data-start=\"682\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"761\" data-start=\"684\">Foster the development of <strong data-end=\"731\" data-start=\"710\">leadership skills<\/strong> and collaborative innovation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"825\" data-start=\"762\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"825\" data-start=\"764\">Inspire <strong data-end=\"824\" data-start=\"772\">creative, connected&nbsp;and out-of-the-box thinking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"929\" data-start=\"826\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"929\" data-start=\"828\">Break down stigma and fear around diverse approaches &#8211; embracing the motto: <strong data-end=\"929\" data-start=\"902\">\u201c<em>Dare to be Different<\/em>\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1023\" data-start=\"930\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1023\" data-start=\"932\">Motivate students to use science and technology to tackle <strong data-end=\"1022\" data-start=\"990\">local and community problems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1130\" data-start=\"1024\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1130\" data-start=\"1026\">Celebrate <strong data-end=\"1049\" data-start=\"1036\">diversity<\/strong> by leveraging the unique talents and perspectives of individuals across society.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1198\" data-start=\"1131\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1198\" data-start=\"1133\">Encourage <strong data-end=\"1197\" data-start=\"1143\">cross-departmental and cross-faculty collaboration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h3 data-end=\"1242\" data-start=\"1205\"><span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><strong data-end=\"1242\" data-start=\"1209\">What Qualifies as Innovation?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul data-end=\"1489\" data-start=\"1244\">\n<li data-end=\"1315\" data-start=\"1244\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1315\" data-start=\"1246\">A <strong data-end=\"1267\" data-start=\"1248\">unique solution<\/strong> to a laboratory, course&nbsp;or research challenge.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1388\" data-start=\"1316\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1388\" data-start=\"1318\">Innovative approaches to problems encountered in classes or tutorials.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1489\" data-start=\"1389\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1489\" data-start=\"1391\">Creative solutions applied at external sites such as field trips, home, charities, or communities.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1662\" data-start=\"1491\">All innovations must be based on <strong data-end=\"1592\" data-start=\"1524\">STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)<\/strong> and be verifiable &#8211; proof of implementation by the student is required.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1780\" data-start=\"1664\">Innovation may involve an entirely new approach or a novel application of a known solution in an unexpected context.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h3 data-end=\"1817\" data-start=\"1787\"><span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><strong data-end=\"1817\" data-start=\"1791\">Awards and Recognition<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul data-end=\"2246\" data-start=\"1819\">\n<li data-end=\"1954\" data-start=\"1819\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"1954\" data-start=\"1821\">The winner will receive <strong data-end=\"1857\" data-start=\"1845\">BDS$500.00<\/strong> (cash or vouchers), depending on whether they are currently enrolled or have recently graduated.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2100\" data-start=\"1955\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"2100\" data-start=\"1957\">The recipient\u2019s name will be engraved on a plaque displayed in the FST Faculty Office and featured prominently across the Faculty\u2019s media channels.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2246\" data-start=\"2101\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p data-end=\"2246\" data-start=\"2103\">A special category recognizes innovations that improve the lives of persons with disabilities, with a prize of <strong data-end=\"2226\" data-start=\"2214\">BDS$300.00<\/strong> (cash or vouchers).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h3 data-end=\"2298\" data-start=\"2253\"><span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><strong data-end=\"2298\" data-start=\"2257\">Award Rules and Submission Guidelines<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ol data-end=\"3423\" data-start=\"2300\">\n<li data-end=\"2335\" data-start=\"2300\">\n<p data-end=\"2335\" data-start=\"2303\">One award is presented annually.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2412\" data-start=\"2336\">\n<p data-end=\"2412\" data-start=\"2339\">Eligible participants include individuals or groups; no group size limit.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2458\" data-start=\"2413\">\n<p data-end=\"2458\" data-start=\"2416\">Group submissions must have a unique name.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2567\" data-start=\"2459\">\n<p data-end=\"2567\" data-start=\"2462\">At least one member must be enrolled in an FST programme and serve as the primary contributor and leader.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2730\" data-start=\"2568\">\n<p data-end=\"2730\" data-start=\"2571\">Lead participants must be current undergraduate or postgraduate students enrolled in a full degree, diploma&nbsp;or certificate programme (short courses excluded).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2820\" data-start=\"2731\">\n<p data-end=\"2820\" data-start=\"2734\">Graduates who completed their programme during the current academic year are eligible.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"2923\" data-start=\"2821\">\n<p data-end=\"2923\" data-start=\"2824\">Private sector submissions are accepted only if linked to an FST internship or professional course.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"3032\" data-start=\"2924\">\n<p data-end=\"3032\" data-start=\"2927\">Submissions may be in text, audio, and\/or video format but must include visual evidence for verification.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"3134\" data-start=\"3033\">\n<p data-end=\"3134\" data-start=\"3036\">Send all submissions to <strong><a href=\"mailto:fst@cavehill.uwi.edu?cc=lisa-ann.rollins@cavehill.uwi.edu\">fst@cavehill.uwi.edu<\/a><\/strong>, copied to <strong><a href=\"mailto:lisa-ann.rollins@cavehill.uwi.edu\">lisa-ann.rollins@cavehill.uwi.edu<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"3241\" data-start=\"3135\">\n<p data-end=\"3241\" data-start=\"3139\">Submissions must originate from a valid <strong data-end=\"3201\" data-start=\"3179\">mycavehill.uwi.edu<\/strong> email address;
