Supporting Students with Disabilities at The UWI Cave Hill Campus<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\t\t\t\t\t\tAt The University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus<\/strong>, the academic admission criteria<\/strong> apply equally to all applicants. However, students with disabilities are encouraged – but not required – to disclose their disability to access the necessary accommodations.Students seeking accommodations must follow the process coordinated by the Office of Student Services and Development (OSSD). This usually begins with a visit to the Office, though students may also speak with the Dean, Head of Department, or any Academic Staff Member, who will then refer them to the appropriate office for support. Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Support Structure<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

At FST, students requesting accommodations are paired with Special Advisors – <\/strong>academic staff who serve as both Academic Advisors and accommodation liaisons. These advisors help ensure:<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n
\n
\n
Students\u2019 accommodation needs are properly communicated and met.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
\n
\n
Departments are informed and equipped to provide the necessary support.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
\n
\n
The Dean\u2019s Office can monitor the accommodation process effectively.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n

Assist faculty and staff in fulfilling accommodation needs.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n

\n
Report unresolved issues to the Dean for further action.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n

Voluntary:<\/strong> Students may request accommodations at any time during their studies.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n

Confidential:<\/strong> All requests are handled discreetly within the Faculty.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
\n
\n
All formal accommodation requests must be submitted through the Dean, following the Campus\u2019s established procedures.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
\n
\n
If students approach other staff members first, they will be referred to the Dean to maintain proper protocol.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
\n
\n
Academic and administrative staff will use Campus-approved guidelines when implementing accommodations.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n

\n
Any unclear or exceptional cases will be escalated to the Dean, who will liaise with the relevant Campus Office.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Students are also encouraged to join the UWI Cave Hill Association for Persons with Disabilities (UWICAPD) <\/strong>–<\/strong> <\/strong>a student-led organization under the Guild of Students<\/strong>. Membership is open to all, but students with disabilities are especially encouraged to participate, fostering a supportive, inclusive community on campus.<\/p>\n
