A Journey of Dedication and Growth
Samantha’s professional journey began in 2007, shortly after completing her BA degree in History with Psychology. Her first role at The UWI Cave Hill Campus was as a Stenographer/Clerk in the Student Affairs – Records Section, where she quickly demonstrated a commitment to efficiency and innovation. In her role, she managed student records, facilitated transcript and verification requests, provided administrative support for The UWI Cave Hill Campus Scholarship Programme, and liaised with both students and external institutions. One of her key contributions was facilitating the transition to a paperless scholarship application process, a move that significantly enhanced office operations and streamlined communication.
Samantha’s attention to detail and dedication to improving systems didn’t stop there. She played a pivotal role in modernizing the physical mail and request system by transitioning it to an online shared system, which resulted in a significant increase in office efficiency. Her ability to lead and innovate was further demonstrated in her role as a Research Assistant with the Caribbean Heritage Network during her pursuit of an MA degree in Heritage Studies. In this capacity, she oversaw content management and supported programme development, further honing her skills in organizational and project management.
In January 2023, Samantha joined the Department of Biological & Chemical Sciences (BCS) as the Administrative Assistant, where she continues to make invaluable contributions. In her current role, she is responsible for managing office operations, supervising staff and facilitating numerous academic initiatives. She coordinates departmental meetings, organizes events and even manages the department’s ornamental plant rental programme. Additionally, she performs secretarial duties, maintains financial accounts, and continues to find ways to improve the overall efficiency of the BCS Departmental Office. Her time management, organizational skills and unwavering commitment to excellence shine through in every task she takes on.
A Passion for Service Beyond the Office
Outside of her professional life at The UWI Cave Hill Campus, Samantha’s commitment to service is equally remarkable. She has been serving as a committee member on the Newton Enslaved Burial Ground Development Committee since 2020, contributing to the important work of preserving and honouring Caribbean history. Her leadership extends to her role as Chair of the Volunteers & Membership Committee for the Precious Touch Foundation, a non-profit organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Samantha’s personal commitment to helping others, her strong sense of community and her dedication to creating positive change are all core to her identity. These values permeate both her professional and personal life, inspiring those around her.
A Commitment to Excellence
With eighteen (18) years of service at The UWI Cave Hill Campus, Samantha’s journey has been one of dedication, growth and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her philosophy is succinctly captured in her personal statement: “What you’re not changing you’re choosing.” This mindset drives her to constantly seek ways to improve, innovate and make meaningful contributions, whether in her professional role or in her community.

As we celebrate Samantha’s exceptional contributions to the Department of Biological & Chemical Sciences (BCS), under our Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and The UWI Cave Hill Campus as a whole, we look forward to seeing the continued impact she will undoubtedly make. Her work, her leadership and her commitment to excellence embody the very best of what we strive for as a Faculty and as a University.
