Mathematics Minor

About the Programme

If you are studying a subject different from Mathematics as your Major, you may add the Mathematics Minor to your degree. At the end of it, you will have a gained some knowledge in and an appreciation of Mathematics that will serve you well in disciplines and professions that use Mathematics.

What Will I Study?

You will
  • appreciate the usefulness, power and beauty of mathematics.
  • recognize that mathematics permeates the world around us.
  • understand and be able to use the language, symbols and notation of mathematics.
  • develop a critical appreciation of the use of information and communication technology in mathematics.

Research

Our Discipline does research in several areas of Mathematics and Statistics, e.g., biostatistics and estimation theory, or aperiodic tilings and fractal & discrete geometry.

Programme Details

You will need 93 credits approved by the Faculty of Science and Technology.
In order to add the Mathematics Minor to your chosen Major, you must do the following 10 courses (5 of them, i.e., 15 credits, at Level II):

  • MATH1141: Introductory Linear Algebra & Analytical Geometry
  • MATH1152: Sets and Number Systems
  • MATH1190: Calculus A
  • MATH1195: Calculus B
  • MATH1235: Python Programming & Mathematical Software
  • MATH2304: Multivariable Calculus
  • MATH2305: Differential Equations
  • MATH2310: Abstract Algebra 1
  • MATH2315: Linear Algebra 1
  • MATH2321: Real Analysis 1
