About the Programme

The Mathematics Major is a degree in which you may combine your study of Mathematics with another subject as Major or Minor. At the end of it, you will have a breadth and depth of knowledge in Mathematics that will serve you well in disciplines and professions that use Mathematics.

We also offer the following Mathematics Minor and Mathematics Double Major:

Full details of the Programme Structure including pre-requisites, co-requisites and anti-requisites for all CMP disciplines are listed on pages 188-282 of the FST Undergraduate Handbook.

Mathematics queries should be directed via email or telephone to  Dr. Peter Chami, Mathematics Coordinator.

What Will I Study?

You will
  • appreciate the usefulness, power and beauty of mathematics.
  • enjoy mathematics and develop patience and persistence when solving problems.
  • become confident in using mathematics to analyse and solve problems both in abstract and in real-life situations.
  • develop a critical appreciation of the use of information and communication technology in mathematics.

Research

Our Discipline does research in several areas of Mathematics and Statistics, e.g., biostatistics and estimation theory, or aperiodic tilings and fractal & discrete geometry.

Career Opportunities

Typical careers include:

  • Actuary
  • Biomathematician
  • Data scientist
  • Investment banking analyst
  • Modelling engineer
  • Operations research analyst
