About the Programme

The Mathematics Double Major is a degree in which you study nothing but Mathematics and Statistics. At the end of it, you will have a breadth and depth of knowledge in Mathematics and Statistics that will serve you well in disciplines and professions that use Mathematics and Statistics heavily.

We also offer the following Mathematics Minor and Mathematics Double Major:

Full details of the Programme Structure including pre-requisites, co-requisites and anti-requisites for all CMP disciplines are listed on pages 188-282 of the FST Undergraduate Handbook.

Mathematics queries should be directed via email or telephone to  Dr. Peter Chami, Mathematics Coordinator.

What Will I Study?

You will
  • appreciate the usefulness, power and beauty of mathematics.
  • develop mathematical curiosity and use inductive and deductive reasoning when solving problems.
  • develop abstract, logical and critical thinking and the ability to reflect critically upon your work and the work of others.
  • appreciate the international dimension of mathematics and its multicultural and historical perspectives.
  • develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to pursue further studies in mathematics.

Research

Our Discipline does research in several areas of Mathematics and Statistics, e.g., biostatistics and estimation theory, or aperiodic tilings and fractal & discrete geometry.

Career Opportunities

Typical careers include:
  • Actuary
  • Biomathematician
