From the Boardroom to the Classroom: The transition of Lean Six Sigma from Industry to Higher Education

Opportunities for the implementation of Lean Six Sigma applications beyond typical industrial settings are more abundant now than ever before. First developed as a process improvement method for Manufacturing Engineering, Lean Six Sigma has the potential to transform the Higher Education system as well, by offering solutions for optimizing efficiency and effectiveness for students, faculty and staff. This research highlights the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) process as it relates to the exploration of various academic challenges under a continuous improvement lens when compared to similar Industrial obstacles that were adjudicated Using Lean Six Sigma principles.
