As part of our Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Staff Recognition Programme, we are thrilled to spotlight Ms. Kay Browne, our Exceptional Administrative Assistant in the FST Dean’s Office. With nearly four (4) decades of dedicated service, Ms. Browne embodies the spirit of commitment and excellence that defines our FST Faculty.

A Remarkable Journey of Dedication
Ms. Browne began her career in 1984 after graduating from the Barbados Community College (BCC) with a Diploma in Secretarial Studies. Her journey took her to the Barbados Telephone Company (now FLOW) for two (2) years before she joined the Faculty of Natural Sciences (now the Faculty of Science and Technology – FST) in 1986 as a Stenographer/Clerk III. Through hard work and determination, she advanced to her current role as Administrative Assistant in the FST Dean’s Office in 2001.

Under the guidance of esteemed leaders such as Professors George Mathison and Leslie Leo Moseley, Ms. Browne has witnessed the FST Faculty's growth and transformation. Alongside her professional achievements, she earned a BSc in Management and an MSc in Labour and Employment Relations, both from The University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus, as well as numerous professional certifications.

  • Supporting student registration and liaising with the Student Affairs (Admissions) Section
  • Overseeing student graduation processes
Her dedication to student success shines through in her meticulous management of the Declaration of Major and Petition to Graduate Forms, ensuring that every student is well-prepared for graduation.

Ms. Browne’s impact extends far beyond her official duties. She is an active member of the Selection and Interviewing Panel for ATS staff, the Chair of the FST Administrative Assistant Committee, and a mentor in the “Girls on the Move” programme at the Lodge School. Her exceptional organizational skills ensure that faculty board meetings run smoothly, a testament to her foresight and preparation.

Recognizing Excellence
In 2016, Ms. Browne was honoured with the Principal’s Award for Excellence, acknowledging her significant contributions to the FST Faculty. Her dedication and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and she continues to be celebrated for her unwavering support of both staff and students.
