A Journey Rooted in Excellence
Dr. Sealy's story begins at Harrison College, where she not only excelled academically but also captained the Interschool Girls’ track team to victory in 1994. After spending a year at The UWI, she continued her athletic pursuits at Jackson State University (JSU) on a track scholarship, where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Meteorology. Her pursuit of knowledge didn’t stop there; she earned a Master of Science (MSc.) in Meteorology from The Pennsylvania State University and a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from Howard University. Following her studies, she served as an Advanced Study Programme Post-Doctoral Fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.
In 2008, Dr. Sealy returned to Barbados to work at the CIMH, where she has since become a leading voice in meteorology and environmental policy.
Leadership and Impact
Dr. Sealy wears many hats in her professional life. She chairs the Pan-American Regional Steering Group for the World Meteorological Organization's Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (WMO SDS-WAS) and is a member of the WMO SDS-WAS global steering committee. As a founding member of the Caribbean Aerosol-Health Network, she coordinates the CIMH Dust and Air Quality Forecasting Centre and leads a dedicated air quality team.
Her leadership extends into academia, where she serves as the CIMH Postgraduate Coordinator and is involved in mentoring PhD and MPhil students in Meteorology and Environmental Studies. Dr. Sealy is also an active participant in various outreach initiatives, promoting scientific literacy and awareness in the community.
Recognized Excellence
Her outstanding contributions have not gone unnoticed. Dr. Sealy has received numerous accolades, including the CIMH Employee of the Year Award and the UWI Cave Hill Campus Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning/Guild Teaching Award. She is also recognized for her extensive research contributions, including her role as Lead Editor for the WMO Airborne Dust Bulletin and co-authoring influential publications on airborne dust and its health impacts.
Community Engagement and Personal Life
Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Sealy is deeply engaged in her community. She is an active member of the Girl Guides Association of Barbados, where she serves as a Ranger and Guide Guider, and she is involved with her local parish church. A self-proclaimed gym enthusiast, Dr. Sealy also values fitness and well-being, embodying a well-rounded approach to life.
