Academic Standing and the Student Advisory Centre

Knowing Your Academic Standing and How the Student Advisory Centre can Help You if You're on Academic Warning

What does academic standing mean?
This refers to your performance in courses pursued during a given semester.

What is good academic standing?
This is determined by your GPA at the end of a semester. In order to be in good academic standing your GPA must be 2.00 or higher

How do I find out what my academic standing is?
At the end of each semester when your grades are posted to your transcript, your academic standing is noted above the courses taken (see highlighted section in the example below)

When should I be concerned about my academic standing?
If after the end of a semester, your results come back and your standing changes from “Good Standing” to “Academic Warning” you should seek assistance.

How can I get this assistance?
The Faculty has set up a Student Advisory Centre which is in operation during the first week of registration. If you are on “Academic Warning” you can come to this Centre to receive academic counselling. Academic counsellors will discuss any challenges you may have had over the previous semester and recommend a registration schedule that better suits your needs.
Below are details on this semester’s Student Advisory Centre. Please note that all Social Sciences students who are currently on Academic Warning will be blocked from registering until they have meet with a counsellor.
