Research: Research Centres and Units - Credit Research Unit

The Credit Research Unit CRU is an impartial research group devoted to the study of credit risk in Barbados and the Caribbean region. In doing so, the Unit engages in both theoretical and applied research of interest to a number of external stakeholders—financial services industry, government agencies and the wider community. The Unit has built a reputation for quality research and applications (credit scoring systems); in addition, the Unit provides specialist advice to industry practitioners and feedback on practices and regulatory proposals.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Unit is to conduct relevant research into the theoretical and practical aspects of credit risk assessment. 

Objectives:

  • Develop core competencies in credit risk management
  • Conduct regionally and internationally relevant research on credit risk
  • Generate revenue through consultancies
  • Obtain grant funding  for research projects
  • Communicate research findings to as wide an audience as possible via journal articles,  conference paper presentations, and work shops
  • Continually promote innovation in the credit risk assessment space
  • Transfer our knowledge and skills to the students of the University and the wider community
