About the Programme

Interested in becoming a Human Resource Management expert? The MSc. Human Resource Management degree will equip you with the tools you need to excel in the recruitment, remuneration, development and motivation of the organisation's most valuable resource- its people! Gain in-depth insight into the theoretical and practical skills of the discipline. Learn about its strategic application from a local, regional and international perspective.

Facilities and Resources

Laptop and Textbook Package - A new laptop and textbooks (printed or electronic) are provided for all registered students. The package fee is included in the programme cost, and students are allowed to keep the laptop and all of the course materials on completion of the course of study.

Research

Our Faculty’s research in Human Resourcs Management has had local, regional and global impact.
  • Professor Dwayne Devonish has expertise in the area of strategic planning and employee wellness and is presently working alongside trade union leaders to establish a National Workplace Wellness Policy. 
  • Dr. Akhentoolove Corbin has expertise in the area of leadership and has researched the role of leadership in the success/failure of West Indies Cricket Teams.
  • Dr. Dion Greenidge has expertise in psychometric assessment. He developed the Hierarchical Personality Assessment Questionnaire (HIPAQ) which has been translated into Mandarin and has placed him in demand internationally.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has certified our MSc. Human Resource Management degree as being aligned with SHRM’s HR Curriculum. This is indeed very significant! Throughout the world, 466 programs in 355 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010, 2013, and 2017 are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programmes that follow these standards.

Programme Fees (as at August 2021)  = BDS $ 30,000
University Registration Fees (as at August 2021) = BDS $ 540 per semester:
University fees comprise of Guild and Amenities Fees. They are not charged in the summer semester.
Please note that fees may be adjusted for academic year 2022-2023. 

Entry Requirements for Degreed Applicants

i. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a university or college acceptable to the University of the West Indies, with at least Second Class Honours.

• Students are expected to have a good grounding in a business subject such as management, marketing, finance, or economics.

• Students with 'Pass' degrees will be considered on the following conditions:
     (a) they are currently working in a business or management related field, and;

     (b) they are successful at an interview conducted by the entrance committee within the Department.

ii. Two letters of recommendation.

Entry Requirements for Non-Degreed Applicants

For individuals working in the private sector who have a desire to obtain advance training in Business and Management, the Department is considering opening its doors to a restricted number of these individuals. It is expected that the number of students entering the programme through this route would be highly restricted and should represent no more than 25 percent of the cohort in any given year. Students entering through this route may be required to undertake a preliminary year of study. The entry criteria for these students would therefore be:

i. Technical certificates or diplomas that can be assessed by the University of the West Indies.

ii. Five years’ experience in a business or management related field at a Supervisory or higher level.

iii. They are successful at an interview conducted by a selected panel determined by the Campus Committee on Graduate Studies and the Cave Hill School of Business and Management.

iv. Two strong letters of recommendation.
