Investments and Wealth Management (ONLINE)

About the Programme

Launch a lucrative career with an MSc. degree in Investments and Wealth Management! Build the skillset needed to become qualified tax planners and wealth managers, irrespective of where you are in the world. Develop a sound understanding of local and international financial markets and use that knowledge to successfully navigate investment decisions for your company/clients.  

You will discover:

  • How to identify and capitalise on trends and opportunities for investment in local and international markets
  • Techniques for performing sound financial analysis and modelling
  • Sound techniques for managing risk and investments.
  • The power of Bloomberg - a facility for accessing real time stock market and investment data, as well as an analytics and trading tool. Bloomberg is a gateway to practical, real-time investment experience. 

 

Research

Our Faculty conducts research in a wide cross-section of areas related to Accounting, Finance and Investments. These areas include ethics, taxation and accounting information systems. 
 
Professor C. Justin Robinson has published extensively on banking, finance and investments in the emerging market context. His research included investigations on stock price behaviour, dividend policy and monetary integration in the Caribbean. Professor Robinson also serves on the Board of Directors for the Central Bank of Barbados.

Additional Information

The MSc. Investments and Wealth Management is not offered at any of the other UWI campuses and will be the only one of its kind offered in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.

For Degreed Applicants

A Bachelor’s degree from a university or college acceptable to the University of the West Indies, with at least Lower Second Class Honours.
 Students with 'Pass' degrees will be considered on the following conditions:
(a) they are currently working in the field, or have adequate work experience
(b) they are successful at an interview conducted by the Entrance Committee within the Department.
Two letters of recommendation.
 
For Non-Degreed Applicants
 
Many individuals working in Finance/Investments have expressed a desire to obtain advanced training. While these individuals have many years of practical experience, they tend to hold mainly certificates, diplomas or other professional designations related to their job. It is expected that the number of students entering the programme through this route will be restricted to a maximum of 25 percent of the cohort in any given year. The entry criteria for these students would therefore be:
 
Technical certificates, diplomas or professional designations that can be assessed by the University of the West Indies.
At least five years’ experience in a related field at a Supervisory or higher level.
A successful interview conducted by a selected panel determined by the Campus Committee on Graduate Studies and the Department of Management Studies.
Two strong letters of recommendation.
