Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Research Group
The goal of the M&E research group is assist in developing and building a monitoring and evaluation culture in the Caribbean region. The group will serve as a repository for Caribbean monitoring and evaluation knowledge and will organize and facilitate policy dialogue on monitoring and evaluation and capacity building, provide advice to public and private sector organizations on good M&E practices, provide networking opportunities for evaluation practitioners and graduate students, provide internships for graduate students interested in monitoring and evaluation, and undertake research on monitoring and evaluation practices in the Caribbean region.
Specific Objectives
The specific objectives of the M&E group are:
1. To promote and build an evaluation culture in the Caribbean region.
2. To interact with policymakers throughout the region to help them to build and sustain M&E systems in the region.
3. To provide networking opportunities for evaluation practitioners in the region.
4. To facilitate forums for discussion of monitoring and evaluation challenges and devise strategies to overcome those challenges.
5. To collaborate with regional and international organizations such as the Caribbean Development Bank and Carleton University in Canada to host conferences and workshops on monitoring and evaluation.
6. To network and collaborate with regional and international evaluation associations such as the Caribbean Evaluation Association and the American Evaluation Association.
7. To enhance the classroom climate of the M.Sc. Project Management and Evaluation degree by having regional and international evaluation experts appear as guest lecturers either in person or via Skype calls.
8. To provide support to graduate students through attachments or internships by forging links with organizations that carry out monitoring and evaluation activities.
9. To provide services to organizations interested in setting up monitoring and evaluations units.
10. To provide services to organizations who require an evaluation of some product, project or service.
11. To foster collaborate research between academics, policy makers and practitioners.
Vision
The vision of the M&E group is to promote and build an evaluation culture in the region. The activates aforementioned will support The UWI strategic plan 2012-2017. Collaborations with regional and international organizations on various initiatives (e.g., research, workshops, conferences, and guest lecturers) will assist in making UWI a globally recognized and competitive institution.
Principal
The Principal of the M&E research group will be Dr. Nadini Persaud who specializes in contemporary monitoring and evaluation theory and practice. Other members of the group will comprise regional and international evaluation specialists, practitioners, and academics who are willing to share their knowledge/expertise to help to build an evaluative culture in the region.
