While Mrs. Rhea Carrington and Ms. Chadee Miller, were awarded at the Faculty of Social Sciences’ Student and Staff Awards Ceremony held on October, 18, 2023.
Dr. Mahalia Jackman, Head, Department of Economics was recognized for her remarkable research output
which spans a broad spectrum of issues pertinent to Barbados and the global community. During the last five years, she has published 15 pieces of work - 12 refereed journal articles and 3 monographs - while juggling a full teaching load and serving as Head of her department as well as various university committees. Dr. Jackman’s multifaceted approach ensures that her work remains relevant to a diverse audience. She is easily classified as a well‐rounded researcher whose tentacles envelop the academic, policy and practical domains. She epitomises the pinnacle of research brilliance and contribution for which The UWI is renowned.
Mrs. Michelle Grandison Taylor, our Administrative Assistant, joined The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, as a Stenographer/Clerk in 1998. Her first assignment was with the then Dean, Faculty of Humanities, who is now the Vice Chancellor of the West Indies, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.
Mrs. Rhea Carrington was awarded at the annual Faculty of Social Sciences’ Student and Staff Awards ceremony held on Friday, October 20, 2023, for her long serving commitment of fourteen years to the Department of Economics.
Ms. Chadee' Miller holds a BSc in Accounting and first joined the Department of Economics in 2013 on a temporary basis. Subsequent to that, she worked with numerous departments but returned to the Department in September 2017. Chadeé is the face of the Department, as she is the first-person students and the public meet when they visit our office. She assists the other administrative staff members in ensuring that all aspects pertaining to the organization and delivery of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are met in a timely manner. Chadeé is specifically responsible for updating the Departmental website and Summer School. Once you visit or call the Department of Economics you can be assured of a warm welcome from Chadeé.
