Bio

Dr. Keerti Singh completed her undergraduate medical education at the Lady Harding Medical College, Delhi University.  She then joined the Postgraduate Degree Programme in Clinical Anatomy  from the Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi University.  She is trained in all subspecialities of Anatomy.  While she was doing her her postgraduation she was trained in basic infertility research.  Her thesis topic was, 'Assessment of Mesterolone Therapy in Oligospermic Males.' 

After sucessfully completing her postgraduation, she worked as an Assistant Professor in Anatomy in various colleges in India where she got experience in teaching and research.  She joined UWI Mona Jamaica in 2006 as a lecturer in Anatomy.  During her term at Mona she visited the Reproductive Research Unit of the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio USA, for Initiating Collaborative Research. 

Dr. Singh joined UWI Cave HIll in 2011 and has been actively involved in Anatomy teaching and Research since then.  She likes to do collaborative research in various clinical fields of interest.  Dr. Singh is a member of both the British and American Association of Clinical Anatomists.  Her research interest include Male Infertility, Congenital Malformations, Anatomy Education and Clinical Anatomy and Genetics.

 1) A retrospective clinical study of Measurements of the normal ventricular system and Indices in Children: CT study of head.

Hypothesis/ aim
The main aim of this study is to measure the normal ventricular system and the subarachanoid space in children, to examine the possible influences due to the age, sex and side. And to establish reference values which determine their normal size, taking into consideration the developmental changes.
Methods
Expected impact: this will be useful for early detection of hydrocephalus in children.
 
 
2) A retrospective study of congenital malformation among the Barbadian newborn babies – incidence, variety and trends – a clinical audit

The prevalence of congenital malformations varies from place to place. The objective of this study is to document the prevalence, pattern, contribution to perinatal mortality and outcome in babies with obvious congenital malformations. A retrospective review of obvious major congenital malformations in neonates delivered at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the past ten years will be carried out. Data will be retrieved from the case files of the neonates.
 
 
3) Study on the effectiveness of various teaching modalities in embryology amongst first year medical students at UWI, Cave Hill.

The study will help us determine the effectiveness of various teaching modalities in      embryology amongst first year medical students at UWI, Cave Hill. The study aims to assess student performance using different teaching modalities. It will also help us determine the long term and short term benefits of multimedia learning approaches in embryology. And finally facilitate in developing a web based module based on student learning preferences.

Teaching Areas

Academic Responsibilities:
 
Teaching: The MBBS batch in Cave Hill consisted of 70 students in 2012 which has increased to 80 students in 2013. This includes taking lectures and practical for the M.B.B.S students with the help of internet based learning tools.
 
Overlooking the histology slides selection and storing for teaching and exams. Working towards setting up of an Anatomy Museum in the future.
 
Evaluation and assessment including setting and conducting exams and preparation of results. Also contribute towards standard setting.
 
Other Activities include working towards setting up of a body donation system to facilitate learning and research in anatomy.
