Bio
Dr Alan Smith graduated from the University of the West Indies (UWI) with the MBBS degree in 1996, and was awarded the Clinical Medal. He then went on to specialist training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Cave Hill and Mona campuses of the UWI, and completed his cardiothoracic fellowship at the State University of New York in 2008 and was awarded the DM Cardiothoracic Surgery degree in 2009. Dr Smith is a lecturer in surgery in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Cave Hill Campus, the programme coordinator for the DM General Surgery programme and a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He is a fellow of the Caribbean College of Surgeons. He also serves as a reviewer for several international and regional journals. His main areas of interest are aortic surgery and minimally invasive thoracic procedures, and his research is mainly focused on clinical medicine.
