
Dr. Alissa Blackman is a certified Internal Medicine Physician and Senior Registrar in the Department of Internal Medicine at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Barbados. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Blackman is an Associate Lecturer at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, with a strong focus on patient-centred care, lifestyle medicine, and preventative healthcare. Passionate about fostering the next generation of doctors, Dr. Blackman is dedicated to simplifying complex medical concepts to enhance student learning. Alongside clinical practice, Dr. Blackman is an advocate for the mental health and well-being of medical students, actively working to raise awareness and prevent burnout within the profession. Through teaching and mentoring, Dr. Blackman strives to cultivate a compassionate and holistic approach to medicine, ensuring that future doctors not only excel clinically but also prioritise their own well-being and that of their patients
Her current research interests focus on how polypharmacy impacts healthcare systems, particularly in hospitals. Her research investigated the effects of multiple medication use on patient outcomes, hospital admissions and the attitudes and experiences towards medication use. Her goal is to improve patient care and streamline medication management practices. She was recently awarded 3rd place at the 23rd ER Walrond Symposium (2024) with her research presentation.
