UWI, Sapienza University and the Maria Holder Diabetes Centre Collaboration

On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus collaborated with Sapienza University of Rome and the Maria Holder Diabetes Center for the Caribbean to host a seminar titled “Sentinels of Oral Health: Joint Strategies and Collaboration in NCD Prevention.”
 
The seminar featured experts from the dental community, public health, oncology, and endocrinology, emphasizing the connections between oral health and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) while focusing on prevention strategies. It was conducted in a hybrid format.
 
Representing the University of the West indies Cave Hill Faculty of Medicine was Dr Roger Sealy, Lecturer in Health Sciences and programme coordinator for the Bachelor of Health Sciences, who spoke on the inclusion of oral health in universal health coverage.

Highlighting the importance of including oral health in Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The BHSc programme trains health systems professionals of the future to ensure the evolution and improvement of Caribbean health systems. Critical areas such as Health Care Administration, Health Informatics and Environmental health are taught in this unique and exciting undergraduate programme. The BHSc is an excellent choice for anyone passionate about improving regional healthcare.
