{"id":19,"date":"2018-09-13T15:44:13","date_gmt":"2018-09-13T19:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe\/special-units\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T20:19:42","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T00:19:42","slug":"special-units","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe\/departments\/special-units\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Units"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"container-fluid page-wrapper site-font\">\n<section>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h1 class=\"page-header\">Special Units and Affiliated Institutions   <\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"faculty-content-page\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h3>Special Units<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/cell\/home.aspx\">Centre for English Language Learning<\/a> <\/strong>is dedicated to providing customised training in English Language learning to institutions all over the world who want a certification in English as a Second Language (ESL).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe\/CERC\/home.aspx\">The Caribbean Educational Research Centre<\/a><\/strong><i>&nbsp;<\/i>aims to enhance access to data and demand-driven research to facilitate evidence-based practices and decision making and inform the development agenda of the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados&nbsp;(CERC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe\/LLL\/research\/allsopp-centre\/home.aspx\" target=\"_self\">Richard and Jeannette Allsopp Centre for Caribbean Lexicography<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;is a research centre dedicated to producing and promoting dictionaries of Caribbean languages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe\/LLL\/services\/writing-clinic.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">The Writing Clinic<\/a> <\/strong>is available to all students who require support in writing projects, assignments, proposals, or in their general writing skills.&nbsp; The Clinic offers developmental as well as remedial support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/FHE\/LLL\/programmes\/academic-literacies-programme.aspx\"><strong>Academic Literacies Programme<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;has the important responsibility of leading students on their journey to becoming better writers. Through their courses, students learn highly valued writing skills that, when properly applied, bolster their academic performance and strengthen their compositions in professional settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h3>Affiliated Institutions<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p>There are also several other affiliated institutions which have links with the Faculty of Humanities and Education as follows:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/gender\/\"><strong>The Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit<\/strong><\/a> aims to introduce an integrated, interdisciplinary programme in Gender and Development Studies, to include gender issues in the content of all disciplines at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to generate research data on women and gender-related issues in the Caribbean.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/confucius\/home.aspx\"><strong>Confucius Institute<\/strong><\/a> is a non-profit public educational organisation whose aim is to provide Chinese language and cultural training resources to non-Chinese speakers as well as to facilitate cultural and educational exchanges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.codrington.org\/site\/index.php\/2016-06-07-01-41-47\/undergraduate-lth-ba-theology\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Codrington College<\/strong><\/a> is&nbsp;the oldest Theological College in the Western hemisphere, and the oldest tertiary institution in the region.
