Joanna Louis-Parker (Bahamas)
Job Title: Lab/Museum Administrator at The Bahamas Maritime Museum
Qualifications: MA History
Graduation Year: 2020
Testimonial:
I chose to attend the University of the West Indies, to study with scholars who had strong backgrounds in Caribbean history, who are active in ongoing regional heritage projects and had publication experience both Caribbean and global contexts. As a career-changer I was looking for a school with both an academic reputation that I could trust and career mentorship, both of which I found at the Cave Hill Campus.
As a Post-Graduate student in one of the smaller departments on campus, I was able to work closely with my professors, peers and community partners to meet my academic goals and learn more about the heritage industry in Barbados. My most treasured student experience was contributing to an exhibition at the Barbados Museum and Historical Society.
Socially, there is a plethora of activities to choose from, but my favorite social activity was hanging out on the beach with friends at the fabulous beach located very near to campus.
My advice to future students is to ask questions about any and everything that you don’t understand, the faculty, office staff, campus staff, fellow students etc.. are always willing to help!
