Bio

Dr Grace A. Fayombo is a Lecturer in Developmental Psychology, School of Education at UWI Cave Hill, since February 2008. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselling & Developmental Psychology. Before assumption of duty at UWI Cave Hill, she worked as a full-time Secondary School English teacher from 1989-1999 and also as a full-time Lecturer at the Department of Educational Foundations and Counselling, Olabisi Onabanjo University, from 1999-2008 in Nigeria where she was promoted to the post of a Senior Lecturer in 2005.

She has published over 30 papers and  received an Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning from the African Association for Teaching and Learning, Nigeria in October 2012. She was also presented with the Principal's Award for Excellence in Outstanding Teaching at UWI Cave Hill in December 2013.

Research Areas

Her early research topics focused on adolescents’ developmental problems like alcohol, substance abuse and the intervention programmes. She has also conducted action research on students’ absenteeism from lectures  which informed her further investigation of active learning strategies such as role play, games, video stimulation to improve students’ attendance and engagement at  lectures for effective learning.

Her other areas of interest include emotional intelligence, psychological resilience and personality traits which are also vital for adolescents’ successful transition to adulthood stage. Presently, she is investigating the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of Nigerian and Caribbean adolescents to expand literature in that area.

  7. Investigating the Physical, Cognitive, Social and Emotional Development of the Caribbean and Nigerian adolescents.

Additional Info

Generally there is dearth of literature in the Psychology of African-Caribbean People. Hence, Dr.Fayombo is making a valuable contribution to research in this area.
