If I were to summarise my 3-year university experience at UWI Cave Hill, I would use Vincent Van Gogh’s words where he said, “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish with Management Studies and simply attending UWI was more than just an academic journey as it acted as a precursor to adulthood. In a short period of time, I learned how to effectively network with different people, balance studies without neglecting recreational activities and overall being responsible and an accountable young adult.
The transition from presential classes in 2019 to completing my studies online in 2022 forced me to find creative ways of maintaining a high GPA, but also caring for my holistic well-being. I put myself up for service on the TTSA, Foreign Language Club and FHE student committee to serve and support the student body as we were tossed into this global dilemma. Through these brave moves, I formed strong friendships with regional students who were unable to return to their home islands. Through the networking with lecturers and students that I did, I have been offered opportunities that have kickstarted my career. In the end, I am forever grateful for these series of small things that lead to my great academic accomplishments.
