The biggest emphasis of applied linguistics at Cave Hill is language teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p> <u>Language acquisition<\/u> \u2013 How do babies learn to speak like the people around them without explicit instruction? The process of learning one\u2019s native language can seem somewhat mysterious, but through the study of language acquisition, you can learn what normal language development looks like, including mastering more than one language or dialect at the same time.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-9 order-2 order-lg-1\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<u>Language learning<\/u> \u2013 Why do young children in a new country pick up languages with ease, while adults struggle in the same situation? Why does reading take so long to learn in one\u2019s first language, but takes comparatively little time in the next languages? Second language learning is a valuable skill, and studying how it works can help you improve in any language.<\/p>\n<p> <u>Language teaching<\/u> \u2013 Is it helpful to teach a Spanish class entirely in Spanish? Is phonics the best way to teach small children how to read, with English\u2019s confusing spelling?
