What can Modern Languages offer me?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tIf you are a student from the Faculties of&nbsp;<strong>Medical Sciences<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Law<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Science &amp; Technology<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>Social Sciences who is interested in expanding your horizons and marketability, you<\/strong> can now&nbsp;<strong>substitute a non-compulsory Foundation Course<\/strong>&nbsp;with a course in&nbsp;Chinese, French, Portuguese or Spanish, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe-lll\/programmes\/disciplines\/modern-languages\/placement\/\">according to your current level in the language (beginner, post-beginner, intermediate, advanced)<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tThe Discipline of Modern Languages runs The UWI-Cave Hill Translation Bureau. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe-lll\/services\/the-uwi-cave-hill-translation-bureau\/\">Click here for more information.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tSome helpful facts about the study of modern languages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A person who speaks more than one language is called a <em>polyglot<\/em>. A <em>linguist<\/em> is someone who studies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/fhe-lll\/programmes\/disciplines\/linguistics\/\">Linguistics<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Interpreting is the act of rendering a message spoken in one language into another spoken language. Translation is the written equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>A good interpreter is not necessarily a good translator and vice versa.
