What skills do you want to improve most?
- English Grammar – For students who have not passed the English Language Proficiency Test or did not take the test but are not exempted from it, we offer FOUN 0100 Fundamentals of Written English, a developmental writing course that must be passed before they register for any of the foundation courses in the Academic Literacies Programme.
- Planning and writing on any subject – FOUN 1006 Exposition for Academic Purposes teaches the study and research skills that are indispensable for any university-level writing.
- Persuasion – FOUN 1004 An Introduction to Argument is designed to develop the critical analytical skills of the student in the area of argument (emotional and logical).

This is a course that is beneficial to all students. It helps with honing critical thinking, critical reading and successful writing skills. These skills improve the quality of the grades you receive in all academic essay writing!
- Writing for a public audience – FOUN 1003 Introduction to Creative Non-Fiction is designed to develop skill in description, scene- building and observation which are foundational to engaging, creative writing.
- Writing as a career-building skill – The ability to write is highly valued in careers in any sector. FOUN 1008 An Introduction to Professional Writing teaches the business, technical and scientific writing skills that students in all Faculties need.
