The MA in Heritage Studies programme continues to create marketable graduates in the field, deepening and diversifying students' knowledge base in this area. Emphasis is placed on innovative types of experiential learning and management aspects of the industry. Graduates of the programme will be able to immediately apply their skills across all sectors of the heritage industry including tourism, museums, archives, government and academia.
The aim of this programme is to create heritage specialists who can develop and manage the cultural and heritage resources of Barbados and the wider Caribbean, while working within global standards for the heritage industry.

We have hosted a number of regional and international students in this programme. They benefit from working in Caribbean heritage institutions while understanding the contested nature of the Caribbean heritage environment.

Students are required to gain 42 credits through successful completion of (6) 5-credit courses (5 compulsory and 1 elective) and a 12‐credit Research Paper of between 10,000 and 15,000 words (exclusive of bibliography and notes), on a topic within their area of specialisation and approved by the Department.

To qualify for the award of the degree, candidates must pass all courses and the research paper with at least a B grade. Students who fail the research paper and one of the courses will be deemed to have failed the whole programme and will not be eligible for a re-sit or for re-submission of the research.
