The Psychology MPhil/PhD equips you with critical and methodological tools to decolonize knowledge, integrate Caribbean and global perspectives, and address regional mental health. You will engage in diverse research, preparing for leadership in academia, policy, and applied practice locally and globally.

The programme emphasizes research excellence. You will need to complete the: (1)course requirements; (2) seminar requirements; and (3) thesis (and oral examination for the PhD).
Each MPhil candidate will present at least two (2) open seminars. The first seminar presentation should normally be the student’s research proposal. MPhil candidates must present a second seminar and PhD candidates a total of three (3) seminars before the completion of the thesis. PhD candidates are required to pass a viva vocé examination.
Each candidate must conduct substantial original research culminating in a thesis of the appropriate size: 50,000 words for the MPhil and a maximum of 80,000 words for the PhD. A PhD candidate will also be required to submit to a viva voce (an oral examination) on the thesis submitted. See Thesis guide

You are required to successfully complete 9 credits in the three core graduate courses outlined below (see full course proposals in Appendix A1-A3). You will be encouraged, wherever necessary, to seek permission to audit other courses outside of the Department (not for credit) which may also aid in preparing for your proposed research topic.

Entry Requirements – MPhil Psychology
You may enter the MPhil in Psychology through one of two routes:
All applicants must submit a detailed research proposal and attend an admissions interview to present their proposal, demonstrate prior research experience, and confirm their commitment to completing the programme.
Entry Requirements – PhD Psychology
To be admitted to the PhD in Psychology, you must hold an approved graduate degree in Psychology or a related discipline with a significant research component (thesis/dissertation). Applicants with a taught Master’s must have achieved at least a B+ average (GPA 3.3) and a minimum 25% research component, or meet equivalent qualifications approved by the Board. At least two years’ post-certification professional experience in psychology, mental health, or a related field is required.
