Anchin Center (DAC). ISLAC encourages and facilitates interdisciplinary inquiry in understanding Latin America and the Caribbean. It actively supports decolonizing the sciences and humanities through the promotion of diversity of its staff, events, invited speakers, and scholarly practice. ISLAC is unique and distinct from other USF and Florida centers as it facilitates the generation, dissemination, and translation of interdisciplinary and applied scholarship based on countries and cultures in the Caribbean and Latin America. The Center facilitates a wide variety of local, regional, and international outreach initiatives such as strategic partnerships, applied research, and service-learning projects that engage with local and regional communities and that advance awareness and understanding of Latin America and the Caribbean. ISLAC faculty are uniquely poised to build the proposed Center’s research capacity.

The DAC, with its main purpose being the Advancement of Teaching is housed in the College of Education at the University of South Florida. The College of Education was established in 1991 to work with educators to restructure and improve the quality of education and the teaching profession throughout Florida and the nation. Its mission is to collaborate with teachers, school leaders and districts to improve the quality of education for students and to transform the teaching profession by attracting, retaining, and developing quality educators and leaders. With the DAC’s access to faculty expertise across USF (many of whom are widely published and have had experience in the Caribbean), it will be in a position to 1) provide needed technical assistance and professional development training in the key areas of need identified in the Caribbean, 2) collaborate to conduct targeted research and associated data analysis that inform policy and planning, and 3) mentor CERC staff, fellows and graduate research assistants, to assist in building capacity to achieve the goals and objectives of the project and the Centre.

USF faculty working with the project include:

Dr Patriann Smith (Coordinator at USF)

Professor Eunsook Kim

Professor Deirdre Cobb-Roberts

Professor Emeritus James King

Dr Robert Dedrick

Dr Jennifer Wolgemuth

Professor Constance Hines

Dr Jolyn Blank

Some of our regional partners are as follows:

Teacher Colleges

The CERC partners with national colleges across the region.

Anguilla: Anguilla Community College

Antigua and Barbuda : Antigua and Barbuda State College

British Virgin Islands: H Lavity Stoutt Community College

Barbados: Erdiston Teachers College

Dominica: Dominica State College,

Grenada: T.
