We welcome the first cohort of students of the Routes to Roots of Caribbean Culture summer course to Barbados from June 7-20, 2023.
This lively and immersive two-week course offers international students a combined theoretical and experiential introduction to Caribbean culture. Through an interdisciplinary approach, it sensitizes students to the region’s history and the central role it played in the creation of the modern world and informs them of its present-day social relations and cultural diversity.
Lectures are interspersed with film-screenings, guest lectures and visits to plantations, museums, sites of interest, nature-hikes, and popular hangouts. At the end of the course, participants would have gained a solid and rounded orientation about the Caribbean as a basis for further Caribbean studies.
