The following statement was issued by the Deputy Principal of The UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Professor Winston R. Moore.
“After several months of preparation, the Cave Hill Campus is set to start teaching on Monday, September 7, 2020 using a blended approach. What we mean by a blended approach is that, with some exceptions, students will have a choice of face-to-face or in-person teaching as well as online tuition. Laboratory and other courses where sound pedagogy requires face-to-face delivery will be provided in a face-to-face mode only.
For the majority of courses delivered by the Campus, students will have a choice of attending classes face-to-face or accessing their learning online. In order to facilitate the online delivery mode of classes that will be available face-to-face, these classes will be streamed so they can be accessed in what we call real time - that is while it is happening. Of course, recordings will also be made available. The Campus has made a substantial investment in the relevant technology to enhance the quality of the video and audio that will be streamed.
As you may well imagine, we have had to put in place a number of changes in order to accommodate the COVID-19 physical distancing requirements. In this regard, additional teaching spaces on campus, such as the large Graduation Tent and a number of rooms at the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management, will be pressed into service. However, even with the additional teaching space, the physical distancing requirements will mean that the number of face-to-face slots will be limited.
Out of an abundance of caution, and in order to facilitate the implementation of the relevant health and safety protocols, student registration will now commence from Monday, August 31, 2020.
When classes begin, students and staff will be required to adhere to a set of strict COVID-19 protocols. These protocols include:
- Mandatory wearing of masks
- Mandatory temperature checks on entering the campus;
- Mandatory hand sanitizing before entering buildings and teaching spaces;
- Strict observance of physical distancing requirements and
- Frequently sanitizing of high touch areas.
These and other measures will be strictly enforced by Campus Security and breaches will not be tolerated.”
