The following statement was issued to all students by the Campus Registrar, Mr. Rommel Carter.
I take this opportunity on behalf of the Principal and staff of the Campus to wish you a safe, healthy and successful 2021. Once again, thank you for adhering to the COVID-19 protocols and keeping the Campus Community safe last semester.
As you are aware, the Government of Barbados is dealing with the challenges posed by COVID-19, and to further contain its spread, the Government of Barbados has extended the national curfew (9:00pm - 5:00am) to January 31. As with previous curfews, this extension aims to restrict activity, movement and gatherings that could result in the further spread of COVID-19, and it therefore has implications for the operations of the Campus.
The following measures will be implemented for the first six weeks of the semester after which they will be reviewed.
• All lectures and tutorials, which were originally scheduled for face-to-face, will now be delivered in an online format unless otherwise specified.
• Due to pedagogical requirements, practical sessions will continue to be delivered in a face-to-face format while observing all National and Campus COVID-19 protocols.
• All sessions which require face-to-face delivery, and which were scheduled between 6:00pm and 9:00pm, will be rescheduled to earlier time slots. Please note that it may now be necessary to reschedule some sessions to the reserved slot (Fridays 2 pm - 4pm) and to Saturdays to facilitate their delivery. This is to ensure classes finish in time for students and staff to be at home before the start of the curfew, and very critically, to ensure the integrity of your degree programmes.
Staff are actively engaged in making the necessary adjustments to the timetable schedule and you should therefore expect these changes to be published over the next few days.
Please also note that, in accordance with this new curfew directive, some administrative staff will be working remotely and therefore you should utilize email communication wherever possible. We are in the process of commissioning mobile telephone services and the relevant contact numbers will be communicated to you in due course. Faculty and staff are expected to respond to your queries.
You are advised to visit the Cave Hill Campus website (www.cavehill.uwi.edu) for all updated information relating to the start of Semester 2, as well as to be informed/reminded about the Campus’s COVID-19 protocols.
As we aim to continue to ensure the safety of the Campus Community, we urge you to contact the Health Clinic or your healthcare provider if you are experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms or if you believe that you have been exposed to this virus. Again, you are advised to receive clearance from the Ministry of Health representatives before returning to the Campus premises.
I look forward to your full cooperation and ask that you continue to follow the well-established COVID-protocols as we successfully navigate this difficult period in our host country and region.
Yours sincerely,
Rommel R Carter
Campus Registrar
