The following notice was issued by the Office of the Campus Registrar.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR START OF ACADEMIC YEAR 2020-2021
The UWI, Cave Hill Campus looks forward to welcoming new and continuing students for academic year 2020-2021. Teaching will commence on September 7, 2020 in a hybrid format - that is, a combination of face-to-face and remote access. This flexible system responds to the realities of the COVID-19 environment and will facilitate study and learning from wherever students are located.
NEW STUDENTS
Ideally, students attending Cave Hill for the first time should physically attend classes. New students who are unable or for whatever reason prefer not to attend physically will still be able to enjoy remote access.
New Student Orientation
An orientation programme geared to familiarise students with the Campus as well as provide guidance regarding academic programmes and registration will be conducted online. This online experience will consist of both asynchronous and live elements. Students will be fully apprised of the Orientation Programme in due course by the Office of Student Services and Student Affairs, Admissions.
Matriculation Ceremony
The matriculation ceremony, officially inducting new students, into the Campus will be a virtual event this year, organised by the various Faculties as Faculty-based events. Detailed information about these ceremonies will be issued shortly.
CONTINUING STUDENTS
Continuing students will be able to access all teaching remotely but will have the option to attend some Level II and III courses face-to-face. Students who are physically present in Barbados would, therefore, be able to pursue their studies in a blended format. The Campus desires to have as many students as possible benefitting from the rich social, cultural and intellectual opportunities traditionally experienced at Cave Hill. Students residing outside of Barbados who are able to return to the island are encouraged to do so.
PREPARING THE PHYSICAL CAMPUS
In preparing for the opening of the academic year, the Campus has been taking all necessary steps to create a safe and conducive learning environment and we look forward to warmly welcoming our new and returning students.
