Mr. Francois Ayodele Jackman


Barbadian Co-Director Confucius Institute

Mr. François Ayodele Jackman was born in 1968 in Barbados. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy at the London School of Economics in 1990 a Master’s Degree in International Boundary Studies at Durham University. He has worked for the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and since joining the Barbados Foreign Service in 1995, as First Secretary in the Embassy of Barbados in Brussels, Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of Barbados to China and Chef de Cabinet in the Prime Minister’s Office in Barbados. He is honored to serve at UWI as Co-director of the Confucius Institute, building the bridge between China and Barbados and the Caribbean through education.
 

Dr SONG Qingbao

Chinese Co-Director of the Confucius Institute, Barbados
Dr SONG QingBao, also called by the English name Paul, is the Chinese Co-Director of the Confucius Institute in Barbados. Dr Song is the former Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) as well as a former Associate Professor in Chinese Language and Literature.
 
Dr Song previously taught Chinese at the Copenhagen Business School and the Faculty of International Education at the CUPL. He was also a Visiting Scholar of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester.
 
Dr Song has a Bachelor and a Master of Arts in Education in Chinese Language and Literature and a PhD in Comparative Literature from the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). Dr Song is from Yishui, Shandong Province, China.


 


Dr LI YanHua


Chinese Teacher and HSK Coordinator

Li Yanhua
was born in September 1979 and is from Anda City, Heilongjiang Province in the North of China. She obtained a PHD in Applied Linguistics from the Communications University of China. She is an associate professor and postgraduate supervisor at the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). She has taught Chinese in Baewha Women’s University in South Korea from September 2008 to August 2009 and Nottingham Trent University in the UK from December 2011 to July 2013. Currently she is a Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute at the University of West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus in Barbados. She mainly engaged in elementary Chinese teaching, New HSK researching (Test of Chinese Language Ability for Foreigners) and local Chinese teacher Training.


 

Ms TALITA Thorpe


Admin Assistant Senography Clerk

Mrs. Talita Thorpe is a Barbadian national, and a member of staff at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus. During her almost 11 years of at the University, she has worked in various departments such as the Registry Records Management, Office Management, Chronic Disease Research Centre and the Principal’s Office. Mrs. Thorpe officially joined the Confucius Institute’s team as Stenographer-Clerk in October of 2015.







 

Ms ZHANG XueJing


Volunteer Chinese Language Teacher

Zhang Xuejing, and her English name is April. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in English translation and interpretation at Xi’an International Studies University, Shaanxi province. She got her bachelor degree in English from Jinzhong University, Shanxi province. On 25th May, 2015, she provided escort interpretation for The First Meeting of the UNESCO Silk Road Online Platform’s International Network in Xi’an. On 12nd May, 2016, she provided escort interpretation for China-Europe Capacity Transfer Cooperation Conference in Xi’an. On 20th June, 2016, she provided escort interpretation and consecutive interpretation for Professor Eudine Barriteau, Bonita Morgan, and the Hon. Richard L. Sealy.

 

Ms DU YingYing


Volunteer Chinese Language Teacher
Du YingYing also known as Cynthia, is a volunteer Chinese Teacher at the Confucius Institue at UWI,Cave Hill campus. MIss Du has a bachelors from PingDingShan University and a Master's from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), her chosen major was Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other Languages. She joined the rest of the team in January 2016, where she is Chinese Language Teacher.
 






 

Ms ZHOU XiaoRui


Volunteer Chinese Language Teacher

Zhou Xiaorui, was born in Kaifeng City of Henan Province. She graduated from Xinyang Normal University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History having won several awards for her scholastic efforts. From May 2013 to March 2015 she worked as a Chinese volunteer teacher in Nepal. Zhou Xiaorui joined the Confucius Institute University of West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus in Barbados, in January, 2016 where she is currently a Chinese Teacher.





 

Ms.Chen YaJun


Volunteer Chinese Language Teacher

Chen Yajun (Cathy) is a Chinese Volunteer teacher at the Confucius Institute of UWI at Cave Hill. She was born in Changde City of Hunan Province. She graduated from Huaihua University, where she received a Bachelor Degree of Arts in English teaching. She has won several prizes for her studies and has been a Chinese volunteer teacher at the University of the West Indies since January, 2016.










 

Ms LI Ya


Volunteer Chinese Language Teacher

Li YaAngela, majoring in MTCSOL of Shanghai International Studies University, is a volunteer Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute at UWI, Cave Hill Campus.
