Developing Organisational Capacity for Ecosystem Stewardship and Livelihoods in Caribbean Small-Scale Fisheries (StewardFish)
Project Overview
The StewardFish project aims to empower fisherfolk throughout fisheries value chains to engage in resource management, decision making processes and sustainable livelihoods with strengthened institutional support at all levels.

COMPONENT 1
Developing organisational capacity for fisheries governance
Outcome: Fisherfolk have improved their organisation capacity to meet objectives that enhance well-being.
Activities:-
- Capacity building in leadership and the development of the leadership institute
- National workshops to improve NFO engagement in fisheries polices
- Investigate capacity gaps of men, women and youth in relation to fisherfolk leadership.
COMPONENT 2
Enhancing ecosystem stewardship for fisheries sustainability
Outcome: Increased participatory Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) application with focus on healthier habitats and pollution reduction
Activities:-
Enhancing ecosystem stewardship for fisheries sustainability
Outcome: Increased participatory Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) application with focus on healthier habitats and pollution reduction
Activities:-
- Improve fisherfolk practices by: training fisherfolk in specific EAF-based plans;providing gear; and technology
- Adapt and implement local codes of conduct for fisherfolk organisation using international guidelines
- Increase public awareness of EAF practices
COMPONENT 4
Project management, monitoring and evaluation and communication
Outcome: Good governance and learning for adaptation institutionalised among fisherfolk organisations
Activities:-
Project management, monitoring and evaluation and communication
Outcome: Good governance and learning for adaptation institutionalised among fisherfolk organisations
Activities:-
- Hold quarterly meetings of National Intersectoral Co-ordinating mechanisms (NICs) to share the participatory monitoring and evaluation (PM&E) findings regionally
- Integrate lessons learnt into best practice guidelines.
