1 February 2024 -- Fisherfolk leaders Margaret Harding and Sylvia White, participants in the UWI-CERMES Just Be Fisherfolk project attended a consultation on the draft Barbados National Ocean Policy (NOP). The Just BE Fisherfolk project aims to improve fisherfolk capacity in climate justice, social justice and blue justice advocacy and action. Fisherfolk leaders are key NOP stakeholders able to directly represent fisheries interests. Under the project fisherfolk will be assisted to influence and have their voices amplified in blue economy, marine spatial planning, and other marine initiatives to sustain or increase the contribution of local fisheries to the benefit of all in Barbados. The Just BE Fisherfolk project is supported in part by a grant from the Open Society Foundations.
