Thank you for choosing the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) to pursue your higher education.

I am Professor David Yawson, and it is my privilege to be of service to you as Director of CERMES while you embark on this journey. Whether you are a student, a young academic, an established scholar, or a public or private sector partner, there is space for you in the incredibly supportive and collaborative CERMES community.

CERMES represents a time-tested tradition of excellence in teaching, research, and service across the Caribbean. This tradition is made possible by a team of dedicated staff members working together with diligent students in an intellectually stimulating environment. We are proud of the significant contributions of our alumni across the regional and national institutions and businesses, a testament to the quality, relevance and impact of our programmes.

Our programmes are designed with an interdisciplinary outlook, a careful balance between theory and practical sessions, including ample fieldwork opportunities. They are globally relevant with Caribbean roots and realities, and they foster habits of mind needed to guarantee success in a rapidly changing world.

At CERMES, our teaching and research activities cover the broad areas of coastal and marine resource management, water resource management, climate change, land management and environmental resilience. Uniquely, you have the opportunity to specialize in one of these fields or create your own degree by combining courses from these fields. Our research students investigate critical issues in these areas, contributing to knowledge and solutions for the region and beyond.

We invite you to make full use of our modest in-house facilities, which include a water quality laboratory, library, computer laboratory, lecture rooms, a project room, and a research vessel for marine studies. In addition, we provide access to drones and other modern research tools to support your education and exploration.

Whatever your purpose, we are ready to support you in your journey. As the Director of CERMES, I am deeply excited to welcome and meet you. I look forward to seeing the impact you will make as part of the CERMES community.
