Registration FAQs
24/08/2020
  •
  • What is the procedure to apply for an override to take a sixth course?’
    • You must submit an override request at the time of registration in the CHOL system. This request is then processed centrally and the response sent to you by email.
    • Please note that the Law Faculty usually reserves overrides for extra credits for final year students.

  • What is the procedure to apply for an override due to a timetable clash?
    • The Law Faculty does NOT grant overrides for timetable clashes whether the clash is with a lecture or a tutorial. Any such requests will therefore be refused.

  • What is the procedure to apply for an override to register for a full class?’
    • The Law Faculty does NOT grant overrides for full classes whether it be a lecture or a tutorial. Any such requests will therefore be refused.

  • What is the procedure to apply for an out of Faculty course?’
    • Final year Law students are permitted to register for a maximum of two level three out of Faculty courses, subject to approval by the Dean. Students should fill out the out of Faculty course request form on the Faculty website and submit this form to the Dean’s secretary. Once a decision has been made, the list of approved requests will be posted on the student notice boards in the Faculty. Students must not register for out of Faculty courses prior to receiving this confirmation that their request has been approved by the Dean.

  • Help! I am a student returning under the academic forgiveness policy and Banner/CHOL won’t allow me to register for some of my second year courses.’
    • Banner will not allow a student to register for any second year courses they have previously passed. Accordingly, you will have to be registered manually by the Admissions section for any such second year courses. Please contact the Law Admissions Officer, Mr Kemar John (kemar.john@cavehill.uwi.edu) and indicate which second year lectures and tutorials you need to be registered for.

  • I failed a course first semester of last academic year. Does that have any implications for my registration this current semester?
    • Any student who failed a first semester course last academic year must register FIRST for that failed course during this current first semester and then add the courses for their current level up to the normal course limit of 5 courses per semester. Students in final year may apply for an override to take 6 courses i.e. the failed course together with their five third year electives. Second year students will simply trail their remaining fifth second year course into third year.
