GRADUATION GOWNS

  • HOW DO I RENT OR PURCHASE A GOWN, HOOD, MORTARBOARD
UWI Graduate gowns will be available for sale through the Bursary. 
 
Graduands may RENT Gowns/Hoods/Mortar boards from the University on payment of a deposit as indicated below.  This deposit must be paid to the Campus Bursary at the time of rental and will be refunded less the rental charge on return of the gown/hood/mortar board.
 
Note however, that it is recommended that you may purchase your gown, hood, and or mortarboard as your own keepsake and for any future academic function or ceremony.

  • COLLECTION AND RETURN OF GOWNS, HOODS, and MORTAR BOARDS
Certified Bank Cheques, Bank Drafts or Money Orders for the equivalent in Barbados currency of the purchase price/rental deposit of the gown/hood/mortarboard, should be made payable to the  University of the West Indies, Cave Hill.  Cash payments will also be accepted at the Campus Cashier.  Please note that personal cheques will not be accepted after October 13, 2017 and that the opening hours of the Cashier at the Cave Hill Bursary are 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. ONLY.  No payments will be received outside of this arrangement.
 
Gowns and Hoods may be collected from the Lobby of The Roy Marshall Teaching Complex, Cave Hill Campus from MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2017  TO TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2017  FROM 9.00 A.M. TO  4.00 P.M.

Gowns/Hoods/Mortarboards should normally be collected by the graduate ONLY.  You are required to produce the receipt from the bursary’s cashier before being issued with the gown/hood/mortarboard.
 
GRADUANDS SHOULD NOT LAUNDER GOWNS/HOODS, AS THEY WILL BE CLEANED PRIOR TO DISTRIBUTION. 

Graduands are asked to return the rented Gowns, Hoods and mortarboards to the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex, Cave Hill Campus no later than FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2017 between 9.00 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. (i.e. the week following the ceremony). The refund, would only be paid when the garments are returned to the University in good condition.  Any gowns/hoods/mortarboards returned after this date, the amount paid for the rental of the Gown/Hood/Mortarboard will be forfeited. Please be guided accordingly.
 
Refunds will be paid at the Bursary’s Cashier from Monday, October 23, 2017 to Friday, October 27, 2017 between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on presentation of your receipt of payment which you received from the Bursary’s Cashier.
 
If you wish the refund cheque to be paid to someone other than yourself, you should indicate this in writing to the Campus Bursar when collecting your gown/hood.  In addition, if you are requesting someone to return your gown you must ensure that the receipt you received is also given to the person returning the gown on your behalf.
 
GOWNS/HOODS/MORTARBOARDS must be carefully examined before receipt as they will either not be accepted in damaged condition, or if accepted, a penalty fee will be charged.
 
SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR NON-RESIDENTS

NON-RESIDENT graduands who will be attending the Ceremony should make special arrangements with the  Assistant Registrar – Examinations for collection and return of Gowns/Hoods/Mortarboards outside of the normal period.  You may do so in writing via facsimile (FAX 1-246-424-7392) or email (exams@cavehill.uwi.edu).  If you are requesting someone to collect on your behalf, please indicate so in writing, giving the name of the person.
