About the Programme

Learn the co-official language of the UN and one of the world’s major languages, official on 6 of the seven continents! 
 
Apply to do a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major or minor in French at the Cave Hill Campus of The UWI, and prepare to explore the world and the region through a new culture. 

What Will I Study?

You will discover: 
  • The beauty of French grammar and vocabulary 
  • The rich literary tradition that has produced 14 Nobel Prizes in Literature, more than any other language besides English 
  • French and Francophone cultures of the Caribbean and Africa 
  • The methods of translation and literary analysis 
  • How to see the world from the perspective of another culture

Research

Our faculty does research in translation, Francophone literature and Francophone culture. We focus on the Caribbean, but expose our students extensively to France and Africa as well
