50th Anniversary Scholarship Fund Appeal

Barbados and UWI: the Next 50 Years of Development

Education, in particular higher education, has played a pivotal role in establishing Barbados as a successful independent nation over the past 50 years.  In our celebration of Barbados’ golden jubilee, we are highlighting the contribution of the UWI to Barbados’ milestone achievement.  As we look forward to the next 50 years, we are inviting parents, alumni, the corporate community and friends of UWI to help us secure continued access to higher education for deserving students.  We are appealing to you to contribute to our 50th Anniversary Scholarship Fund so that we can establish 10 new scholarships for our most outstanding Barbadian students. We aim to raise at least BDS$125,000 in support of this Fund.
 

Who Will Benefit?

We intend to create 5 undergraduate scholarships valued at BDS$10,000 each and 5 postgraduate scholarships valued at BDS$15,000 to be awarded in the 2016/17 academic year.  These scholarships will assist 10 of our best students from Barbados to pay tuition fees, purchase books and supplies and assist with their daily living expenses.  These students must:
  • Be an existing part or full-time student at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus accepted to read for a three or four-year degree undergraduate programme or in a postgraduate programme of study in any discipline or field of study offered at the Campus.
  • Have demonstrated an exceptional capacity for a high level of academic performance with a minimum GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Demonstrate outstanding commitment to public service, including volunteerism and involvement in extracurricular activities for community and national development.

  • Invited to present Scholarship at the Annual Student Awards Ceremony
  • Listed as a Benefactor in the Annual Report of the Principal and the Benefactors Honour Roll
Silver $10,000 - 29,999
  • Listed in the Scholarship Awards Brochure
  • Invited to present Scholarship at the Annual Student Awards Ceremony
  • Listed as a Benefactor in the Annual Report of the Principal and the Benefactors Honour Roll
Jubilee Less than $10,000
  • Listed as a Benefactor in the Benefactors Honour Roll
 
Some donors wish to remain anonymous. If this is your preference, we would be happy to accommodate you.
  1. You will be helping to build intellectual capacity and professional skills in your industry/sector. Through your scholarship, the best minds will be able to conduct advanced study and research in specialised areas of interest in your field. Our students are your future employees and the future leaders of your sector.
  2.  If you contribute towards a full scholarship, you may name that award in honour or memory of a loved one or other individual of your choice.
 

How Can You Contribute to the Fund?

You may wish to establish a full scholarship or make a partial contribution to the Fund. 
To do so, you should complete our pledge form by May 25, 2016.
