OECS/EDF/UWI TLIU Tertiary Education Programme: The Secondary Teachers' Training Programme Component

The Secondary Teachers' Training Programme (STTP) was designed to address the critical need for standardised training of secondary school teachers within the OECS countries.

During August 1998 a Needs Assessment was carried out in ten territories, (Anguilla, Antigua, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts, Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent) the resulting report identified the following subject areas as the most critical for immediate standarisation:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Modern Languages
  • Science
  • Geography
  • History
  • Social Studies
  • Business Education
  • Research Methods
  • Assessment & Evaluation
  • Education

A team of module writers were invited from within the OECS to develop the modules, thus ensuring that each subject was geared toward the specific needs of the Caribbean.

The STTP was developed to target the untrained graduate teacher and the untrained non-graduate teacher.
